Dental sedation is not usually offered for regular dental cleanings or checkups but we may be able to offer it for patients with extreme anxiety.
Who could benefit from dental sedation?
If you recognize issues that you have in any of the following points, you might want to consider dental sedation:
- General anxiety disorder
- Previous bad experience(s) with dental work
- Unusually sensitive oral nerves
- Phobia around dental procedures
- Small mouth that becomes sore during dental work
- Resistance to local anesthetic
If you suffer from any of the above issues, dental sedation could help you undergo the dental treatment that you need. Dental sedation can help patients get through anything from root canals and tooth extractions, to dental implant procedures, with a minimum of stress or anxiety.
Dental sedation is usually not offered for regular routine dental care such as dental cleanings or x-rays. Extreme anxiety, however, may be considered a viable reason for sedation during those procedures.
Is dental sedation is right for me?
If you feel extremely anxious about the prospect of going to the dentist, speak to your dentist. They will be able to advise you on whether dental sedation is right for you, and if so, what type would be most beneficial in your case.
