Oral conscious sedation can help anxious and nervous patients get the dental treatment they require. Here our Surrey dentist explains a little more about this type of dental sedation.
If you suffer from moderate to extreme dental anxiety, oral conscious sedation may help to make your appointments less stressful.
What is oral conscious sedation?
Oral conscious sedation uses prescription medication administered by your dentist to help you feel more relaxed during dental appointments.
This form of dental sedation lasts long enough to help patients through most common dental procedures.
How will oral conscious sedation make me feel?
You will feel calm and at ease during oral conscious sedation.
You will remain conscious during your treatment but very relaxed. In fact, it isn't unusual for patients to doze off during treatment when this form of sedation is used.
Oral conscious sedation is safe for most healthy patients. A full medical history will be taken by your dentist prior to your treatment to avoid any drug interactions.
It's important to arrange for someone to take you home following your treatment if you have oral sedation. Although you will be conscious during treatment, you will not be able to drive following your treatment.
